KEYNOTE ADDRESS TOPIC: Managing Sustainable New Technologies
Library customers are changing and libraries are rapidly changing in response. A substantial element of this change is technology, be it hardware, software, or web services and resources. Many of us have 2.0 services in our libraries already, or are advocating for some. But how do we make sure that we are making a wise investment of resources? How do we ensure that these services are sustainable over the long-term? Preparing 21st Century Ohio Learners for Success: The 12-13 Initiative
Jillian Maruskin, Public Services Librarian, Ohio Wesleyan University
Theresa M. Fredericka, Executive Director, INFOhio
In order to be successful in school, college and the workforce, Ohio’s 21st century students must be equipped with the necessary skills to explore and analyze new information. Yet numerous studies confirm that students lack these critical skills. Ohio’s school, public, and academic libraries already work to prepare young people for an information-intensive world and are positioned to influence student success. Learn how INFOhio and OhioLINK will enable Ohio’s P–20 educators and the state’s librarians to better prepare students for successful educational careers and lifelong learning. Discover the goals of the 12-13 Initiative and how they can contribute to creating lifelong learning opportunities for all Ohioans.

Take some time out to join this breakout session, talk with Sarah Houghton-Jan, and explore different strategies for managing and coping with various types of informational overload in the library world.
