OHIONET Announces True Serials eResource Management Option

November 19th, 2009, 1:51pm by Christine Morris

True Serials™ is Nylink’s hosted electronic resources management service, now available through OHIONET. Launched in May 2009 after a development and pilot phase that included public, health sciences, and academic libraries, as well as the state library of New York, True Serials offers a flexible interface and highly customizable output for a simple annual subscription that includes all modules and hosting. It’s based on a stable open-source platform that encourages collaborative development and facilitates communal decision making.

Built on a growing and constantly updated knowledge base that already contains over 500 fulltext collections and aggregation resources, there are many ways True Serials works for your library. With True Serials you can make the most of your collection investment by presenting ejournals, print journals, and databases to your patrons in meaningful ways.

Choose to participate in Nylink’s LHR (Local Holdings Records) service and True Serials will also save resource sharing staff time by creating and then loading accurate local holdings for your ejournals in OCLC WorldCat. True Serials also offers a robust ERM (Electronic Resources Management) platform from which your library can track licenses, subscription renewals, and administrative data for journals, databases, and whatever other local resources you need to manage.

True Serials is a growing service based on open source software, so from time to time Nylink may add, delete or modify information, databases, materials, capabilities or services to improve the system. Client libraries are encouraged to contribute their ideas to our software development efforts and expected to contribute data updates to the knowledgebase.

True Serials is an affordable solution for any library that currently subscribes to electronic serials and participates as an ILL supplier in WorldCat. Because the service is hosted, smaller libraries and those libraries lacking an electronic resources librarian, serials librarian, or in-house IT support would benefit from the Service.

For more information, please contact Mary Conroy (maryc@ohionet.org or 800-686-8975, ext. 16) or Christine Morris (christinem@ohionet.org or 800-686-8975, ext. 29).
