Now more than ever, libraries of all types and sizes are seeking ways to cooperate and collaborate to provide quality services and resources for the diverse communities they serve.  OhioNET’s new CE series, Cultivating Connections, explores topics ranging from “soft” skills like customer service and effective communication techniques to new data-driven skills that can help employees at all levels do just that.  These webinars listed below are designed to help library staff to foster positive and valuable connections—with end users, with stakeholders, and with colleagues.

Head to our Training Calendar for a full listing of all our upcoming sessions!

Join us for this FREE four-part webinar series that will provide a practical introduction to Tableau Public, a free data-visualization software that offers libraries the ability to leverage large sources of data and create dynamic data visualizations. Participants will learn to create several visualizations using library data and then effectively compile these visualizations into interactive dashboards and stories that engage target audiences and advance data-driven arguments. Take home practice activities will be provided following each training session to allow participants to develop their data visualization skills. Head to our Training Calendar for more information on each session.

This event is supported by the State Library of Ohio with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

As you may remember, we launched a new version of our website last fall with an updated look and feel.  Since then, we’ve been adding new functions and features to the site.  Beginning June 1st, all OhioNET CE attendees are invited to register for a user account that will allow logged-in users to quickly register for events, update their contact information, and access other non-public portions of the site, like the annual database preview.  Additional benefits will continue to be rolled out throughout the next several months.

Head to www.ohionet.org/user to create an account (or to log-in to an existing one).  If you participated in either of our spring database previews, you have already created an account.  Contact me at shellym@ohionet.org if you have questions!

OhioNET members have been invited to participate in a study of US consortia.

Just as libraries are charged to demonstrate value to their patrons, funding agents, and stakeholders, so too should library consortia demonstrate value to their members, their members' parent institutions, and other consortia partners.

So far the research and professional literature of assessment and value in librarianship has focused mainly on libraries and not on consortia. As a result there has been very little insight as to how members of library consortia value their membership within a given consortium.

This is your chance to change that!

This survey is part of a research study conducted by Anya N. Arnold, an independent library consortia consultant, and Rick Stoddart, Head of User and Research Services at University of Idaho Library. The survey has been developed to try to determine what the value of consortium participation is to members and why members participate in consortia.

The survey is estimated to take about 10-20 minutes to complete.

The link is found here: https://uidaho.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_1Ggy2JOqLOD6ZI9

We would like to encourage your participation--not only on behalf of OhioNET, but also on behalf of the profession. Please feel free to share this opportunity widely with other colleagues as well; the researchers are seeking a broad spectrum of participation to inform their work.

This project has been certified as EXEMPT from the Institutional Review Board at University of Idaho and has been assigned a project number of 16-1199.

Closing June 7, 2016.
