Grassroots Conversations Are Growing with OhioNET Community Collaboration Teams

We're off and running! Since OhioNET's Community Collaboration Teams were announced at Dive into Data 2 last month, the two groups have already met and launched their projects. If you missed the conference, here's a quick recap of the innovative conversations that are happening:

Connecting Communities With Summer Food Service Programs and STEAM Programming

ILEAD USA 2017's "Team Vittles" is expanding on its established program of changing the landscape of food insecurity one meal at a time by broadening the conversation to bring Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) sponsors, sites, partners, and resources together at the county level into a coordinated effort and one-stop service experience. In the context of the OhioNET Community Collaboration Team, they will be sharing their one-stop concept with libraries interested in the SFSP, and they will be working to develop, and share STEAM programming ideas for SFSP sites.

Collaboration Team Members include:

Greggory Gassman, State Library of Ohio
Shane Hoffman, Plain City Public Library
Gina Maida, University of Mount Union
Kate McCartney, Marysville Public Library
Sarah Schaff, Denison University
Shelly Miller, OhioNET Liaison

Building Bridges for College Success

The Columbus State Community College Library has offered CC+ classes to area high schools since 2013 and is reaching out to librarians and schools to establish best practices and training, so that high school librarians and media specialists can help their CC+ students connect to resources and succeed at the high school level. These practices and training will be shared in the hopes of facilitating discussion among college and K-12 librarians across the state.

Collaboration Team Members include:

Lorena Popelka, Reference and Instruction Librarian, Columbus State Community College Library
Tracy Kemp, Assistant Director, Columbus State Community College Library
Dana Knott, Library Coordinator, Delaware Campus Columbus State Community College
Lizabeth Deskins, Media Specialist, Hilliard Bradley High School
Elisabeth Baryon, Learning Center Director, Westerville  North High School
Kristen Macklin Lanning, Media Specialist, Big Walnut High School
Heidi Beke-Harrigan, OhioNET Liaison

We're so excited about the conversations these groups have begun, and we are looking forward to updating you on their progress. In the meantime, we also want to hear from you. Have you been doing any STEAM programming that you would like to share? Do you have an outreach program with a local high school or college to help bridge the gaps in K-20 learning?  We'd love to hear from you!  Please reach out to Shelly or Heidi with your thoughts and experiences.
