OhioNET News

If you're planning to attend next month's OLC Convention & Expo at Kalahari in Sandusky, make sure to keep your eye out for OhioNET staff.  We'll be sharing information and conversation at our exhibitor's booth (#424), right next to the central lounge area.  Stop by and say hello.  Look for us at the sessions, the awards luncheon, and the evening activities (Battledecks, baby!), too.  Our own Carrie Waibel will also be sharing her expertise at a presentation on Wednesday afternoon--Vendor Communications or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Negotiation.  See you there!

The Miami University Copyright Conference has announced the winners of two OhioNET Registration Scholarships to attend the conference.

The recipients are:

  • Allison DeVito, Ohio State University - Main Campus

Partnership Strengthens Common Purpose and Community

On August 2, fifteen K-12 schools and the Columbus State Library celebrated the first year of their Building Bridges venture.  After a year of dialog and school visits, the event held at Columbus State featured a discussion of the issues that K-12 and college libraries face when supporting College Credit + students, a guest speaker from the Tutoring/Writing Center, as well as an introduction to the university databases that students are expected to use to complete their coursework.  Everyone agreed that the partnership has been a success, especially for its collaborative exchange of ideas. Lorena Popelka, Reference and Instruction Librarian at Columbus State coordinated the initiative and shared that the "strong relationships allow academic and K-12 libraries to share programming ideas, cultivate instructor relationships and jointly advocate for student information literacy needs when policy decisions are made."  Participants were also able to renew their Columbus State database access for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year, as well as welcome 2 more partners. Estimates are that College Credit Plus student involvement will increase to over 6,000 students at 77 schools in Columbus State's service area for this Fall semester. The group will be sharing their experiences and inviting broader discussion about expanding academic and K-12 partnerships at the upcoming ALAO and OELMA conferences.

We are pleased to announce two more OhioNET members, as of July 1:

We hope that our current members will help us welcome these additional libraries into the OhioNET community!

The Library Leadership Ohio planning team has heard from many alumni—we need to find ways to reconnect!

We reached out via email two weeks ago to as many current contacts as we could find, but we think we are missing a few--and we need your help.

If you are an alumnus who has not heard from us, or if you know of an alumnus with incorrect contact information, please let us know: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TY2LGC2

Thanks for keeping in touch!
