Fostering Dialogue: Communication Strategies for Challenging Topics
Wednesday, February 19 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM
Speakers: Ione Damasco (University of Dayton) Dracine Hodges (Duke University)

Last year, a group of state-wide, library-focused organizations worked together to create a day of discussion and networking for library staff from all types of institutions. The result was Re-IMAGEing Ohio’s Libraries—held at The Conference at OCLC on June 14th.  The goal of this event was to create connections and foster conversations across different types of libraries that would raise awareness of common issues and encourage collaboration in their local communities.  Attendees to that event had the opportunity to learn what other types of libraries are doing and explore mutual benefits across different types of libraries.

However, one day of great discussions is just the start.  We are excited to continue these important cross-type interactions in communities around the state with a series of free, informal meetings to be scheduled over the next few months called Continue the Conversations.  Each meeting is being organized by area volunteers and will include a facilitated discussion focused on generating ideas and building inter-library networks. Watch for more information about these events, coming soon to a listserv near you!

Only a few days are left to submit your application for Library Leadership Ohio 2020.  This year’s institute will be held at the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center in Lewis Center, Ohio from the evening of July 14 through mid-day on July 17 with the theme of Living Our Values: The Library’s Role in Social Change.  Featuring speakers with statewide and national reach, from inside and outside the library profession, LLO 2020 will be facilitated by OhioNET and the State Library of Ohio and is open to support and professional library employees working in public, school, special, and academic libraries.    32 individuals will be selected to participate, and more information about the selection process and access to the online application can be found at www.libraryleadershipohio.org.

Completed applications must be received by 11:59 PM on January 17, 2020.  If you have any questions, please contact Evan T. Struble, Associate State Librarian for Library Development at the State Library of Ohio, at estruble@library.ohio.gov or 614-752-9178.

Computers in Libraries 2020 will be hosted in Arlington, VA from March 31 through April 2 with the theme of Generation Next: Preparing for New Technologies.  From the K12-focused Internet@Schools track to the Library Leaders Summit, this conference offers a variety of training topics and learning options for library staff in many different positions and working in many types of communities.  OhioNET is once again working with Information Today to provide discounted registration for employees of any OhioNET member institution.  Register by February 28th to receive the Early Bird rate!

  • Full 3-Day Conference Pass (3/31 through 4/2)--$359 ($369 after 2/28)
