Happy Earth Day--April 22, 2009!

OHIONET and our member libraries have always made efforts to conserve resources and to be sensitive to environmental issues. Today the "green" movement asks us to re-evaluate our surroundings and practices with new vigor and vision.

Here at OHIONET, staff have formed a "Green Team" and quickly made some improvements at our office.  Starting with simple projects such as  improved recycling and better lighting and water efficiency,  we have raised our "green" awareness and are inspired to plan future projects for us and for the benefit of our libraries.  We  will continue to work on sustainability initiatives as an ongoing project.

On this Earth Day, we encourage you to participate in finding ways to make this earth a better place for today and our future. Let us know what your library is doing--or thinking about doing--to make your facility a bit "greener." Every little bit helps!

Everyone knows that budgets have gone from \tight\ to \scary\ for Ohio's public libraries -- especially with news of the April PLF Distribution. While the mantra of \more with less\ is quickly becoming \less with less\ in many places, we at OHIONET hope that we can give you options to keep stretching your electronic resources budget a little further.

Many resources are available at special prices for the Spring Preview. Time-sensitive offers are noted by asterisks on the Title list.

Please take a look at some of the most recent additions to the Spring Preview, which include:

Please enjoy the Spring Preview, and let us know if there is anything else we can do to help you stretch your budget dollars a little further.

You may now access the preview at https://www.ohionet.org/ref2009_preview.php

Information about each product includes the availability of remote access, usage stats, technology specifications, and general contacts. Pricing information for new subscriptions is available by contacting OHIONET. Renewal pricing information for current subscriptions will be sent by OHIONET in the next few weeks.

We hope that you enjoy access to these resources, and we think that you will find some very good deals to help you make the most of your budget. If you have questions about the preview, please contact Christine Morris at christinem@ohionet.org or 800-686-8975, x29.

OHIONET has successfully gathered more than ten academic libraries for a special consortium price for the Gale Encyclopedia of Religion Online. Access will start in April.   This version is the online equivalent of the second print edition -- a 15-volume set.  Our discount is  at least 50% off list pricing for this one time purchase price.

Brochure: http://www.gale.cengage.com/brochure/EncyReligion10404.pdf

Fact sheet: http://www.gale.cengage.com/pdf/facts/EncyReligion.pdf

Since we met the minimum group requirement, now all academic library members may participate--regardless of size or whether you have the print version or not--all at the same per library price.

Thanks to all who replied and helped us form the group.  This  saves money for all the participating libraries.  Library patrons will surely appreciate the convenient online access to this  multi-volume acclaimed reference work.

We are still able to add new subscriptions at the special price, so if you are interested and have not yet joined this group, please contact Mary Conroy at 800-686-8975 Ext. 16 or maryc@ohionet.org.
