Wittenberg University, a leading liberal arts college located in Springfield, Ohio, seeks an innovative, transformative, and strategic leader to assume the directorship of Thomas Library. Wittenberg is committed to attracting and retaining highly qualified individuals who collectively reflect the diversity of our student body and society at-large. The successful candidate will expand and improve existing facilities to engage students and faculty and will lead the transformation of the library into an academic learning commons that will support a wide range of academic and student support services. This individual will be responsible for library operations and management of the facility, including technology, equipment, and budgetary needs. This position reports directly to the Provost and will work closely with Academic Affairs to develop a strategic plan for the library that aligns with on-going institutional initiatives.
As the chief administrative officer, the Director is responsible for monitoring, coordinating and supervising the operation of the library. The Director will work closely with the Board to set policies and make recommendations for the future; with the Fiscal Officer to set the budgets and oversee spending; and with the staff to guide the day to day operations of the Library. The Director will also be the library representative to the community, encouraging visibility for the Library and promoting its programs. He/she will also work with the board and community to maintain the integrity and historical charm of the original Carnegie building.
The ideal candidate will have a MLIS and at least three years supervisory experience in public libraries. Communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with others, and strong leadership qualities are necessary. An aptitude for using technology, raising funds and writing grants is strongly desired. Familiarity with Evergreen is an asset.
The Galion Public Library is a beautiful Carnegie building built in 1904. It is one of the few Association public libraries in Ohio and governed by a group of approximately 40 members through a nine member board. It has a staff of 17 (7 full time staff, 6 part-time and 4 student pages).
