A Twin format is a set of two identical bar codes. Twin labels are used when libraries want to have more than one label on each book. By placing a label on the front and the back of the book the librarian at the checkout desk never has to turn the book over to scan the label, which reduces the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. If a label is ever damaged or removed from a book, having a second label also eliminates any problems associated with locating the book in the system.
