As library staff members, we know how to solve the problem of hungry minds.  But, meeting information needs can be complicated by your patrons having hungry bodies.  Of course we want to help, but how?  One way that libraries have taken action is to participate in the Summer Food Service Program. Ohio now has the second highest number of SFSP sites in the entire nation, and over 10% of them are located at public libraries. In this session, attendees will hear from Team Vittles, a group of librarians from all across Ohio, who are working hard to gather and share information on how libraries of all types can help address food security issues in the communities they serve.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Understand the severity of food security problem in Ohio
  • Explore resources about how other libraries have addressed similar issues
  • Find out how to start or join a local Summer Food Service Program
  • Examine different levels of participation—that don’t involve cooking food!
