Exploring Our Statewide Resources: Transparent Language

Libraries Connect Ohio-a partnership among OPLIN, OhioLINK, INFOhio and the State Library of Ohio-works to provide access to e-resource content to all Ohioans. This session features an overview of the newest language database: Transparent Language Online. Learn about these tools that can help your community grow. This webinar is freely available to anyone working in Ohio libraries and will be led by Lauren Gancarz of Transparent Language with additional insights and real-life examples provided by Megan Sheeran of Upper Arlington Public Library.

Attendees to this session will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore the variety of languages available to learn
  • Get an overview of the ESL (english-as-a Second Language) module
  • Learn about KidSpeak-the foreign language module designed especially for children and young adults

Presenter Name Lauren Gancarz and Megan Sheeran
Presenter Background

Lauren Gancarz has been with Transparent Language for seven years. She is a huge animal lover and serves on the Board of Directors at the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire. Lauren graduated from the University of New Hampshire (UNH) with a B.A. in Communication and minors in Business Administration and French.


Megan Sheeran is a Reference Librarian at the Upper Arlington Public Library. She received her MLIS degree from Kent State University. She enjoys tricky research questions, teaching patrons new search strategies, and presenting about online privacy.
