Fundamentals of Cataloging: Introduction to Original Cataloging


This day-long workshop will introduce attendees to the key skills and workflows needed to create original records in MARC21 format.  This session is designed for individuals who have prior training or experience with copy cataloging practices.  Attendees will review standards for quality cataloging, explore time-saving tactics like creating templates or using constant data, and discover freely available tools to streamline their workflows and/or enhance their records.


  • Attendees are strongly encouraged to have access to their preferred cataloging software (like OCLC's Connexion Browser) during this session.
  • Attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptop or tablet. 
  • A simple catered lunch will be provided for all attendees
