About this Job
The Archivist position is responsible for the assessment, description, and management of digital and physical collections at the Knowlton School and for the ongoing storage, preservation, digital reformatting, and accessibility of those holdings. The Archivist works closely with faculty and students to manage the acquisition and processing of physical and digital materials related to student work; faculty work; institutional history; the history of architecture, landscape architecture, and city and regional planning at Ohio State; and the history of related communities of research and practice. The Archivist works with donors for collection development and ensures access to materials for academic colleagues, staff, students, and outside scholars for academic research and for use by communications and marketing for the Knowlton School. The position manages tools for collection retention, disposition, and access including DAMS and the Digital Library website.
As documentarian for the Knowlton School, the position further oversees audiovisual recording and post-production for school programming for accession to the Knowlton Archives and for use by communications and marketing. Events include the Baumer Lecture Series, symposia, exhibits, seminars, recruitment, and advancement events. The position acts as liaison to college and university partners regarding technologies that support audiovisual recording.
The position reports to communications and marketing and operates with significant autonomy to administer its collections and define Knowlton’s archival strategy in collaboration with the Knowlton School leadership. The position maintains its own labor, supplies, and programming budget and manages student staff who support all aspects of the position. The position collaborates with external vendors to accomplish the goals of its program.
Salary
$55,100-60,400
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Library and Information Sciences. 2 years of relevant experience required. Experience managing physical and digital collections, archival processing, and digital reformatting. Experience with digital asset management. Knowledge of best practices, metadata schema, and emerging trends in archives. Experience in planning and managing long-term projects. Experience in hiring, training and supervising student employees. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Desired Qualifications
Master of Library and Information Science. 3+ years of relevant experience preferred. Experience working in the arts, higher education, or cultural organizations. Experience working with large flat paper visual artwork and three-dimensional art. Familiarity with rights issues regarding archival collections. Experience managing a budget. Experience in DSLR photography, videography, and post-production processes. Familiarity with archival collections management systems such as Collective Access or Archives Space. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications.
