Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Considerable experience in law library administration, including management of financial resources, development of budget proposals, and preparation of reports
  • Ability to bring vision, strategic thinking, innovation, and coherent planning to the library
  • Experience supervising and mentoring librarians and staff
  • Strong supervisory, communication, and leadership skills
  • Record of successful classroom teaching
  • Familiarity with relevant legal information technologies, including legal research systems, case management systems, and other legal information tools relevant to contemporary legal practice
  • Experience in working with digital and information technologies in the academic and law library environment
  • Interest in and ability to contribute to the profession via research and service

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An understanding of the nature of work performed within a collective bargaining agreement;
  • Familiarity working with SAP software or similar higher education financial management systems.

Duties: 

The Associate Dean of Library Services and Director of the Law Library is responsible for the overall administration and operations of the Law Library. In particular, the Associate Dean:

  • Provides a strong vision for the role of an academic law library in meeting the demands of a changing legal education environment and concomitant changes in legal practice
  • Carries out the objectives of the Library consistent with the goals of the College of Law
  • Promotes communication and teamwork while undertaking supervisory functions of hiring, performance review, and professional development pursuant to University of Cincinnati policies and collective bargaining agreements
  • Develops and implements strategic plans
  • Creates and maintains print and digital collections appropriate to the mission of the College of Law
  • Develops and manages budgets, with the Dean and Director of Business Affairs
  • Oversees the delivery of educational technology services, including support of classrooms
  • Supports faculty scholarship and teaching
  • Oversees the College’s institutional repository
  • Assists faculty and administration in developing courses and programming to build student capacity in technology and its use in the practice of law
  • Teaches advanced legal research and other courses
  • Actively participates in the governance of the College of Law
  • Works closely with the University’s Dean and University Librarian, and serves on the university-wide Library Directors’ Council and multiple University committees
  • Plays a leading role in final selection of library components and the logistics of moving into the new College of Law building (expected in 2022)
  • Monitors library programs and services in compliance with the accreditation standards of the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools
  • Works collaboratively with staff, faculty, and students, and with partners across the University, in library consortia, and in professional organizations
  • Engages in research and scholarship as duties permit, and contributes through service at the institutional and professional levels
  • Actively participates, contributes, and promotes university-wide all-jurisdiction libraries collaboration
