Requirements: 

Education: Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university 
Qualifications: Knowledge of emerging technology, integrated library systems (specifically Polaris), reference services, collection development, supervision, planning, and administration. Previous management or supervisory experience strongly preferred.  A strong familiarity with a wide range of computer systems and various technologies required.  
 

Duties: 

The North Canton Public Library is looking for a dynamic, innovative, customer-service driven manager to provide support, leadership, and oversight to the Library’s technology and reference services. The successful applicant must be enthusiastic and public-service focused with excellent management skills and an expertise in technology, specifically as it relates to public libraries. The Head of Technology and Reference Services is part of a team that establishes and monitors objectives towards the achievement of the Library’s vision. 

Job Responsibilities: The North Canton Public Library’s Head of Technology and Reference Services will be responsible for managing the Library’s technology as it relates to customer service as well as managing its Reference Services Department that oversees adult, teen, and technology programming.  
 
Duties include but are not limited to: 
  • Demonstrates outstanding customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovative technology
  • Participates in the hiring, training, and evaluating of reference staff; ensures that staff perform duties according to established procedures
  • Analyzes community information needs, identifies trends in information delivery, and designs programs and services to provide optimum service to Library users 
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of Library services and reference programs; makes adjustments as necessary to assure the delivery of the highest quality of service 
  • Selects, purchases, and maintains electronic databases
  • Evaluates, purchases, and maintains Library hardware and software and all related items; acts as a liaison with outside technology vendor to coordinate installation and repair of said systems 
  • Oversees automation of Library administrative functions 
  • Develops technology assessments based on customer, Library, and staff needs 
  • Retains software and database licenses as well as service contracts for all network-related equipment; coordinates with outside technology vendor to ensure the efficiency and operational functions of each 
  • Works with the Director to formulate policies related to technology, adult, and reference services and interprets and assures the implementation of policy
