About this Job

Participates in the development and implementation of goals and objectives to meet the Library’s information technology needs; proactively engages department managers on a routine basis regarding IT activities; assesses the effectiveness of provided services for departmental operations
Oversees the setup, configuration, administration, and maintenance of the Library’s technology networks, hardware, software, and peripherals; evaluates, selects, and recommends Library-wide technology purchases; develops long-term information systems strategies to plan for and control network upgrades and growth; evaluates and recommends new technologies; and encourages innovation among staff in the utilization and implementation of ideas and techniques

  • Oversees maintenance of hardware and software related to specialized library services, including the Polaris ILS, Envisionware PC Reservation system, and Bibliotheca RFID systems
  • Serves as overall lead and vendor liaison for the Polaris ILS and Bibliotheca RFID systems
  • Serves as an active, engaged, and collaborative member of the library’s management team; contributes to the development and execution of goals in support of the Library’s mission and strategic plan
  • Determines information requirements, boundaries, and priorities of new projects in order to evaluate current system capacity and future equipment acquisitions and system needs
  • Plans and prepares technology budgets, tracks and monitors expenses; reviews and revises technology-related plans and policies; prepares statistical reports on use, trends, and changes; establishes and maintains positive vendor relationships
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures related to network hardware and software acquisition, use, support, security, and backup
  • Conducts a variety of organizational and operational studies and analyses; recommends modifications to assigned programs, policies, and procedures, as appropriate
  • Implements adopted information technology strategic plans, policies, and standards
  • Manages network security systems, including file access control, anti-malware software, and unified threat management hardware
  • Communicates with library partners and outside vendors for technical support and program updates as needed to resolve Library computer technology and network issues
  • Maintains inventory of the Library’s computer hardware and software
  • Provides staff training in the operation of computer hardware and software
  • Maintains an awareness of technology developments and innovations that impact public libraries; monitors changes in regulations and technology that may affect operations; researches emerging products and enhancements and their applicability to Library needs
  • Responsible for special projects, their management, and other duties as assigned.
  • Receives, investigates, and responds to difficult and sensitive problems and complaints in a professional manner; identifies and reports findings and takes necessary corrective action
  • Attends department and other meetings as scheduled.

Salary

$40,000 - $50,000

Required Qualifications

  • Qualifications and Progressively responsible work experience with administering computers and computer networks in an enterprise Windows environment required IT certifications in networking, server administration, and network security preferred
  • Experience with firewall software, email systems, database systems management, and library automation software strongly preferred Knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop and Microsoft Server administration; firewall, router, and switch network administration; and Cloud systems administration
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills
  • Must be able to understand the service needs of the library and be able to prioritize accordingly
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellent public service; ability to work with others in a consistently approachable, cooperative, enthusiastic, and effective manner despite numerous competing requests.
  • Must be able to plan and project for future growth and needs
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Must be able to lift and carry (up to 40 pounds) library materials, push and/or pull book trucks, bend and reach, utilize a standard mouse and/or keyboard, and be able to spend a reasonable amount of time seated in front of a computer
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to complete work with speed and accuracy and handle frequent, sudden task changes effectively Ability to present complex technical information to non-technical audiences and convey understanding
  • Ability to manage complex projects on time and within budget
