About this Job

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Library Director is responsible for the development,
implementation, and promotion of library services for the benefit of all citizens of Boyle County. The Library
Director oversees all aspects of library operations, serving as it chief operating officer, and ensuring that the
Library’s programs, services, and collections support the Mission and Goals of the Library.

Salary

75,000-85,000 annual

Required Qualifications

Serve as an ambassador for the Library to the larger community. Using discretion, sound judgment, and
broad vision, provide leadership and positive support for the Library’s role
• Work collaboratively with library board, staff, community agencies, organizations, governments, and the
general public to provide and promote high-quality library services
• Propose, implement, and evaluate services, programs, and policies that support the Library’s mission and
goals
• Manage library personnel — hiring, training, motivating, problem-solving, disciplining, terminating —
through direct supervision or via consultation with supervisors
• To ensure the financial integrity of the Library, oversee budget and financial matters, including forecasting,
budget preparation, monitoring of expenses, and compliance with audit requirements
• In a timely and efficient manner, prepare and submit all required and requested reports and documents to
local, state, and federal offices, to agencies providing grant funds, and to the Library Board
• Through consultation and collaboration with library staff and managers, act to support the efficient
functioning of the various library departments, including programming, public services, technical services,
IT services, collection development, youth and adult services, HR management, public relations, local
history, building maintenance, and outreach services
• Maintain a practical and working knowledge of public library principles and best practices, continually
seeking training and professional development for the benefit of the Library and its Mission

Desired Qualifications

Additional Information: Full-time Exempt position (40 hours weekly); benefits include Health and Life insurance;

Requires day, night, and weekend hours and a flexible schedule, dependent upon library needs.

Qualifications (Education, Skills, Training): ALA-accredited MLS; minimum of five years of increasingly responsible
public library experience as a senior manager, assistant director, or director; demonstrated understanding of
accounting and budgeting principles and practices; demonstrated skill and experience in supervision and
management of personnel; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, cordially, and effectively with diverse
groups of people.
