An MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution and public library management experience, demonstrated experience in supervision, budget management, involvement in implementing or participating in strategic planning, current knowledge and use of technology and digital services.  

Ritter Public Library is a school district library, established in 1918 by the Vermilion Board of Education.  This year the library celebrated their Centennial recognizing 100 years of service.  Today the library provides collections and services to residents of the Vermilion Local School District as well as the surrounding area - approximately 19,275.  The most recent addition to the building was completed in 2010 and received Gold LEED certification.  The library is financially supported by the PLF and local levies of 1.625 mills and a budget of $1.4 million.  Responsible for day to day operations, the Director works with a current staff of 21.48 FTE’s.  Hourly and part time employees are members of OAPSE Local 337 so experience working with a union is a plus.  Working closely with the Fiscal Officer, the Director is involved in the budgetary process, reporting to Trustees at monthly meetings.  A member of Clevnet since 1986, customers enjoy the benefits of borrowing materials from the consortium of over 46 libraries in northern Ohio.  Located on Lake Erie, 45 minutes from downtown Cleveland, Vermilion is a community whose summer population swells attendance at programs and circulation rises.  The library is open 7 days a week with a wealth of programming year round.  Compensation may range from $62,500 - $70,000 depending on education and experience.  A competitive benefit package is included.  


The Board of Trustees of Ritter Public Library in Vermilion, Ohio is looking for a dynamic director.  Trustees are focused on an individual with strong management skills, experience with strategic planning, budgeting, collection development, strong interpersonal skills and the knowledge to continue positioning the library as a community asset with 21st century goals.  In addition to working with Trustees, Fiscal Officer and staff, the director will work closely with a very supportive Friends group, Endowment Fund Board and Foundation Board.
