Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library and information studies from an ALA-accredited program or a comparable graduate degree from a non-U.S. university, reviewed on a case-by-case basis
  • Experience with health sciences database searching
  • Curiosity and desire to learn more about scientific terminology, methodologies, and health professions
  • Able to take initiative and lead individual efforts
  • Familiarity with current trends and technologies facing academic environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in life or health sciences and/or professional experience in the fields of biomedicine or health sciences
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an academic, life, or health sciences library
  • Ability to adapt and work well within a complex, changing environment
  • Evidence of ability to lead projects and initiatives relevant to research and education within an academic or health sciences library

Rank and Salary

This position is full-time, permanent, 12-month tenure track faculty appointment. Salary and faculty rank are dependent on qualifications and experience with a target hiring salary range of $55, 000 to $60,000 per year.

As a member of the Health Sciences Library, the Research and Education Librarian will initiate and build partnerships with faculty, staff, and students from one or more assigned health sciences college, school, or department especially within the College of Medicine through a liaison model. The successful candidate will engage with faculty and develop skills as needed to deliver education and research services and resources when and where needed.


  • Develops and maintains successful relationships with faculty, students, and staff in assigned areas
  • Develop, implements, and assesses innovative and strategic instructional and curricular programs through a variety of methods and formats
  • Develops expertise and participates in evidence based practice, information literacy, and research support initiatives across the health sciences. Builds and adapts expertise of new tools and approaches as needed to support research, education, and clinical missions.
  • Provides in-depth research support through consultations and innovative services, including but not limited to basic data management planning, research impact assistance, and copyright knowledge.
  • Advises and/or performs complex literature searches in support of systematic reviews and other research endeavors
  • Monitors patterns of research and emerging issues associated with scholarly communication and informs faculty, staff, and students as appropriate
  • Serves on Health Sciences Library, University Libraries, and University committees and working groups and collaborates with university centers, offices, and other librarians as appropriate
  • Participates in strategic planning and goals setting at the Health Sciences Library, including leading initiatives as appropriate
