About this Job

Euclid Public Library is seeking two enthusiastic and empathetic Teen Associates to join the Youth Services team. The successful applicants will have experience working with youth, be able to build rapport with teens, and enforce library rules. Responsibilities include: answering reference questions at the teen and children’s desk in-person, by phone, and email, including recommending books to youth for leisure and helping to find resources for school assignments, preparing and conducting after school programs for teens, tweens and their families, assisting youth and their families with the use of computers and printers, and promoting library services to the community. Teen Associates are also responsible for serving as a liaison to the schools by conducting class visits and promoting the library at community events.

* Knowledge of a wide range of books and authors*
* Knowledge of CLEVNET system, bibliographic databases, Dewey Decimal Classification System*
* Knowledge of Core Competencies required for position*
* Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements*
* Knowledge of library services, policies and procedures*
* Knowledge of materials processing*
* Knowledge of the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights*
* Knowledge of young adult and children's interests and popular culture
* Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
* Proficient with print and online resources; including searching skills. e-mail, websites, databases and online operating systems*
* Understanding of patron confidentiality requirements and ethics responsibilities under Ohio law*
*May be acquired after hire
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work requires light physical effort including very frequent standing, walking and lifting of materials. Requires the ability to operate business office and library equipment; the ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set up and maintain work files; lift, retrieve and provide materials to patrons in a timely manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work performed in good working conditions – occasionally subjected to poor physical or environmental conditions and/or occasional health and safety hazards. There is daily use of a computer.  Position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and requires periodic participation and attendance at library events and meetings.

Wage

$16.68

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
* Valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record
* Experience working with teens and children preferred.
