MARC for Serials Cataloging (Session 2)
Fundamentals of Cataloging is returning to a popular and complex topic – serials cataloging! If you help manage your library’s journals, magazines, newspapers, or any other periodical resource, attend this series to better understand how and why we catalog them the way we do. This set of online trainings will focus on the issues, fields, and elements needed when copy cataloging periodicals.
Please note that we will cover both physical and electronic serials records. Each session in the series includes dedicated practice, brief quizzes, and other learning engagement opportunities.
This second session in our Serials series will focus on the key MARC fields frequently used in serials cataloging.
Through this session, attendees will have the opportunity to…
- Explore freely available, relevant MARC resources
- Explore key MARC fields dedicated to continuing resource cataloging
- Identify continuing resources records (for serials and integrating resources) in MARC format
Who Should Attend
Individuals who are responsible for maintaining catalog records for periodicals (especially those new to these tasks) and anyone with an interest in the topic.
