About this Job
Ohio University Libraries seek a forward-thinking, collaborative, and engaged leader to head the Research Services department in alignment with the needs of an R1 university. This role is responsible for advancing innovative programming and outreach that supports research and creative activity across all levels of the university, while fostering a healthy, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Research & Education Services, the Head of Research Services plays a key role in delivering high-impact library services that support the university’s mission and Dynamic Strategy. This position leads the development, outreach strategy, management, and assessment of services related to the research data lifecycle, open scholarship, impact analysis, digital scholarship, data literacy, and student research initiatives.
The Head of Research Services also supervises a team of professional librarians and works collaboratively across the Libraries and University to support research excellence. Additionally, the position serves as a subject liaison—likely in Health or STEM—providing instruction, consultation, and collection development in assigned academic areas as part of the Health & STEM disciplinary team.
Salary
$68,000 to $78,000
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited school or from a master’s level program in library and information studies accredited or recognized by the appropriate national body of another country.*
3 years of library work experience.
1 year of direct supervisory experience of full-time employees.
Comprehensive knowledge and/or experience with several of the following: research data, digital scholarship, research impact, creative activity support, and open access initiatives.
Strong internal and external communication skills, including experience/knowledge in outreach initiatives and fostering a team-based work environment or project.
Desired Qualifications
Teaching and presentation experience.
Experience working in an academic or research/creative activity-focused library.
Collection management experience or coursework relevant to building and maintaining library collections.
A degree or interest in health, medicine, or STEM fields.
