SCHEDULE: (Full-Time) Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Answers library phones, assists callers or transfers to correct library staff member(s)
• Monitors library email, responds or routes to correct library staff member(s)
• Routes research/reference requests to Medical Librarians
• Circulation – Serves as Circulation Liaison between Ohio State University Libraries and Nationwide Children’s Hospital Library. Develops working relationship with OSU Circulation staff, communicates changes/policies/procedures to NCH library staff, handles and resolves circulation questions
• Registers hospital clinicians and staff for library cards; checks in/checks out library materials
• Processes requests for print materials from Ohio State University Libraries and OhioLink libraries
• Reconciles missing materials and sends notices to library staff with overdue materials
• Processes library fines for overdue materials
• Shelves library materials, organizes materials by subject and library call number
• Computer assistance – helps hospital staff and patient family members with basic computer tasks
• Maintains library printers and coordinates maintenance and repair
• Fills requests for medical research articles from citation lists and individual article requests
• Records library statistics for monthly reports
• Fills requests for hospital archival materials (hospital history inquiries), Assists with filing of historical materials
• Assists with DOCLINE (National Library of Medicine) system for article requests, incoming and outgoing
• Assists with book and materials processing
• Provides administrative/clerical support to Library Manager
• Follows opening procedures at 8:30am and closing procedures at 5:00pm
• Other duties as assigned
Wage
salary commensurate with experience
Required Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Outstanding organizational skills
• Ability to work accurately with attention to detail
• Ability to arrange items in alphanumeric and/or subject order
• Experience with computer and library software including word processing, spreadsheets and databases
• Ability to instruct others in basic computer navigation and word processing skills
• Ability to interact confidently with clinicians and other hospital staff
• Two years of college coursework preferred
• One year of library experience preferred
• Experience in health care industry preferred
• Familiarity with medical terminology
• Familiarity with LC (Library of Congress) classification helpful
