Case Western Reserve University seeks a forward thinking, inclusive, and collaborative individual for the Library Assistant 5 position.
POSITION DESCRIPTION The Library Assistant 5 oversees multiple administrative tasks for the Access and Resource Services team, including, but not limited to managing the functions and operations of the Knowledge and Creativity Commons and staff oversight. The library assistant works independently; however, the library assistant’s work is subject to review when the solution of problems involves new interpretations of applications of established guidelines. The Library Assistant 5 manages all aspects of the evening and weekend operations of the Access and Resource Services team and multiple advanced administrative tasks for the team, including, but not limited to library operations Sunday through Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The library assistant transitions the library to overnight access; collaborates with Library and University Public Safety to manage access to the facility and emergencies; and supervises library assistants, student workers, and other support staff. The library assistant works collaboratively to develop policies and procedures, create manuals, implement new procedures and systems, and plans and implements special projects. The work of the library assistant supports and collaborates with the department’s team leader in the completion of the team's goals.

KSL is home to the University Archives and Special Collections and manuscripts consisting of over 17,000 linear feet, the Kulas Music Collection, and the Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship which advances research by partnering with scholars and students to explore and develop new forms of scholarship. KSL is a member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), OhioLINK, the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), HathiTrust, and the Center for Research Libraries. In 2019 KSL was the recipient of the ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award. KSL affiliate libraries include the Cleveland Institute of Art Library, the Cleveland Institute of Music Robinson Music Library, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Library, and a cooperative relationship with the Western Reserve Historical Society Research Library.

Required Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS High school education and 6 years of relevant experience, Associate’s degree and 3 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree.
