The Board of Directors of the Grant County Public Library is seeking its next Library Director, an accomplished leader who will continue the Library’s long tradition of serving the community. The Grant County Public Library is a Special Purpose Government Entity (SPGE) where it receives its operating funds primarily from taxes collected by the county. Operating funds may also be supplemented by fees, grants, or donations.
The Library Director is responsible for developing and supporting all efforts necessary to maintain a public library that is responsive to the community’s needs for information, education, and recreation. Working with the Board of Trustees, the Library Director develops library policies, monitors library services, develops and manages the budget, creates public relations materials, supervises staff and volunteers, oversees the facilities and property, and stays informed of developments in library management.
Grant County has provided library service since 1954 and became a tax supported library in 1976. A 12,600 sq. ft. library was built in 2003 and recently completed a renovation and expansion of 10,500 sq. ft. that provides expanded meeting and programming space, a new and dedicated Youth Services area, and upgraded public and staff spaces. The library is opened 66 hours per week but is currently operating a reduced 44 hours per week. The Library has a $1.5M operating budget and a staff of 19 (currently 13). The Grant County Public Library is in Williamstown, the County Seat of Grant County, and is located mid-way between Cincinnati and Lexington. Grant County is home to approximately 25,000 residents.
The ideal person will be a forward-thinking leader who can apply innovative and creative solutions; a person who is involved in the community and able to develop and foster partnerships; a person who has experience in fiscal oversight of the budget and long-range strategic goals; and a person who has the ability to work with a variety of people and is comfortable working with the general public, staff, and legislators. Our new director will have a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible public library experience (3 years minimum supervisory experience), a master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university and be able to meet Kentucky’s Certification requirements.
