About this Job

This position helps students and faculty use Sinclair’s Library collections and facilities, to organize and maintain shelving and filing of resources, to track and recover borrowed materials, to process inter-library lending and borrowing through OhioLINK/SearchOhio, and to perform other duties that assure the effective operations of the Library. This position plays a key role in preparing library student employees for future employment.

  • Select, train, schedule, evaluate, guide, assist and supervise a team of circulation student employees
  • Oversee shelving, shelf-reading, searching for missing items, and inventory of library materials
  • Manage the processing and handling of all patron requests, including internal holds as well as OhioLINK/SearchOhio materials received and shipped to various locations
  • Generate notices and paging slips
  • Provide circulation support and services to internal and external customers by telephone, email and in person
  • Resolve customer circulation issues regarding policies, procedures, borrowing, lending services, directional information, and reference assistance
  • Recommend and document circulation policies and procedures
  • Act as a liaison, providing support and training, to the IT Labs Specialists as well as to staff at remote locations who use the integrated library system
  • Assist with statistical reporting, technical support and troubleshooting for library resources, database cleanup and maintenance, and other technical services duties as needed

Hours are variable up to 28 hours a week and will likely include some evening and Saturday hours.

Required Qualifications

-Minimum of Associate’s degree earned or completed 24 college level course credit hours towards a Bachelor’s degree required; library paraprofessional program, computer science, or business preferred
-Minimum of 2 years library or related work experience required
-Experience with an integrated library system and the OPAC is preferred
-Flexibility to handle multiple problem-solving tasks required
-Excellent oral and written communication skills required
-Excellent customer service, math, and computer skills required
-Ability to apply basic application software skills, file management skills, and information research and evaluation skills to problem solving.
-Ability to train, supervise and coach circulation student assistants required
-Ability to plan and organize as well as to adapt to change required
-Ability to carefully monitor work details required
-Willingness to attend relevant workshops to keep up-to-date on the professional and technical aspects of the job required
