Librarian – Youth Services

Pay Range: $22.67 to $25.23 per hour

Location: 220 N. Fifth St, Zanesville, OH 43701

Summary:
Are you passionate about fostering a love of reading, exploration, and creativity in children and teens? Join our team as a Librarian in the Youth Services Department! Under general supervision, you will provide direct services, assistance, and support to library customers seeking children’s and teen library resources.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Assistance

Assist customers in locating materials for youth and answering reference questions using print and electronic resources.

Provide reader’s advisory services and guidance for school assignments.

Offer support in navigating library equipment and digital resources, including eReaders, tablets, and the online catalog.

Program Development and Delivery

Plan, develop, and conduct engaging youth programs using age-appropriate books, crafts, activities, and songs.

Lead the summer reading program, including theme selection, scheduling performers, school visits, and progress monitoring.

Outreach and Community Engagement

Represent the library at schools, daycare centers, and community groups by delivering programs and promoting youth library services.

Collection Development

Select and maintain youth print and electronic materials, ensuring a robust and relevant collection.

Creative Displays

Design and implement informative and entertaining displays in the youth services area.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Good working conditions with occasional exposure to inclement environments during outreach activities.

Frequent sitting with occasional standing, walking, and digital dexterity for computer tasks.

Close vision required for detailed computer work.

Wage

$22.67 to $25.23

Required Qualifications

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Library & Information Sciences from an American Library Association-accredited institution.

Broad reading background in youth literature.

Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License.

Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

Knowledge of youth literature and a passion for promoting literacy and learning.

Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

Creativity and enthusiasm for planning engaging youth programs and events.

Collaborative mindset to support the library’s mission of providing free and equal access to resources and services.
